September 2026 · Hunger Action Month

Play your partfor a hunger-free Georgia

September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign led by Feeding America to raise awareness about hunger and inspire communities to take action. The message is simple: ending hunger takes all of us.

In Georgia, that work runs through eight Feeding America food banks serving all 159 counties, along with the pantries, schools, churches and volunteers in every one of them. Whatever you have to give this month, there is a place for it.

Hunger reaches every county in Georgia

1 in 6 Georgians experienced food insecurity in 2024, including 1 in 5 children Feeding America, Map the Meal Gap, released 2026 using 2024 data. See the Georgia numbers.

The study found food insecurity in all 159 Georgia counties, with the highest rates in rural communities. Roughly 64 percent of food-insecure Georgians earn too much to qualify for federal nutrition assistance, which leaves food banks, pantries and community partners as the bridge.

Behind every number is a neighbor. And every neighbor deserves access to the food and resources they need to thrive.

There’s a part for everyone

You do not have to solve hunger on your own to make a difference.

Our work happens year-round

Hunger does not follow a calendar, and neither does our work.

Feeding Georgia does not run a warehouse. We coordinate the eight Feeding America food banks that do. We bring state and federal resources into the network, run statewide programs that no single food bank could run alone, and carry the network's voice to the Capitol. September raises the volume. The work itself runs all twelve months.

Summer Meals

When school lets out, school meals stop with it. The statewide site finder connects families to free summer meals for anyone 18 and under, at schools, libraries, parks and churches across Georgia.

Farm to Food Bank

In partnership with the Georgia Department of Agriculture, the program purchases surplus and unmarketable produce from Georgia growers, moving more than 14 million pounds of fresh food a year into the network while supporting farm families.

Disaster Relief

When a storm crosses the state, the network is already in place. Food banks coordinate with partners to move water, shelf-stable food and emergency supplies into affected counties.

Join us this September

Volunteer at the food bank that serves your county. Give to the network that supplies it. Tell your legislators what food insecurity looks like where you live, because policy decides how far every other effort reaches. Then share what you learned this month with someone who has not seen the numbers.

Volunteer. Give. Speak up. Share.
