About Feeding Georgia

Feeding Georgia is composed of seven regional Feeding America food banks and maximizes their impact by collaborating on strategic initiatives, advocating on their behalf and coordinating statewide efforts. Together, we are leading a statewide effort to end hunger in Georgia.

Our member food banks work with more than 2,000 pantries distributing food throughout Georgia to 156,500 unique individuals each week, adding up to more than 130 million pounds each year. You can find your food bank here.

Atlanta Community Food Bank

The Atlanta Community Food Bank works with more than 700 community-based partners—including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, shelters and senior centers—to distribute an average of 9.7 million pounds of food each month, or approximately 8 million+ meals to our neighbors who are food insecure in 29 counties across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.  In February 2023, with the support of a caring community of partners, advocates, donors, and volunteers, we distributed our 1 Billionth meal into the community.

America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia

Established in 1981 in Savannah Georgia, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is a locally inspired, volunteer-driven nonprofit food bank and community partnering organization. Second Harvest serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities who are at risk for hunger throughout Coastal Georgia.

Chattanooga Area Food Bank

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank’s mission is to lead a network of partners and unite the community to eliminate hunger by feeding, nourishing, and empowering those we serve.

Feeding the Valley Food Bank

Feeding the Valley Food Bank is one of eight regional food banks in Georgia and is a member of Feeding Georgia (formerly the Georgia Food Bank Association).  We are also a member of the Feeding America network of food banks, the national network of food banks, and our nation’s leading hunger-relief organization.  We are inspected by the American Institute of Bakers, International (AIB) for food safety.

Headquartered in Columbus, Ga., we serve as a centralized source for receiving and distributing donated food, fresh produce, and grocery products from national and local retail donors as well as seasonal produce from local providers. In addition, area businesses, individuals, civic groups, schools, and churches conduct food drives throughout the year to provide food for our programs. We also receive U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Georgia Nutritional Assistance Program (GNAP) commodities. All collected food is inspected and inventoried in our warehouse before distribution.  By meeting certain criteria and through an application process for 501(c)3 organizations, non-profit organizations and churches are able to utilize our services.

Food Bank of Northeast Georgia

The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia was founded in 1992 in an effort to end hunger in fourteen counties. Our first home was on Prince Avenue in the building that is now The Grit. In that first year, the Food Bank distributed approximately 350,000 pounds of food to 36 partner agencies.

In 1997, the organization relocated to our permanent home on Newton Bridge Road, which has since been expanded to continue meeting the needs of our community. In 2016, the Food Bank added a second location in Rabun County. This distribution center enables the organization to better serve the counties of Georgia’s mountain region. This expansion included a state of the art facility complete with a teaching kitchen, commercial kitchen, and frozen food processing line.

With more than 28 years of experience serving the community, the Food Bank now distributes more than 13 million pounds of food to our fourteen county service area through the help of  around 200 partner organizations every year.

Golden Harvest Food Bank

We exist simply because people in our community struggle with meeting a basic human need—having enough to eat.

Founded in 1982, Golden Harvest Food Bank works to create a safety net of partner agencies, programs, and direct services to meet the needs of our neighbors who struggle with hunger across our 25-county service area. With a network of over 350 partner agencies and programs, we can get nutritious meals directly into the hands of those in need through agencies embedded in their communities.

We believe that everyone in our community should have enough nutritious food to live a happy, healthy life. We strive to increase access to healthy food and foster long-term stability for neighbors in need with the help of our donors, partners, and volunteers.

Middle Georgia Community Food Bank

In May 1981, Rev. Ben Fore, Director of Christian Social Ministries of the Macon Baptist Association, visited St. Luke’s Outreach Program in Atlanta. He returned to Macon with a dream. This dream he shared with twenty citizens of our area, and on March 1, 1982, with $1,000 in startup funds from the United Way, the Macon Area Food Bank was incorporated.

When we began, the Rev. Fore operated the Food Bank out of a donated pickup truck and a small storage area in the basement of the Macon Rescue Mission.

In 1993, MGCFB became a certified affiliate with Feeding America, the nation’s food bank, which led to increased food supplies and funding. Through the ensuing years, MGCFB has continued to grow to meet the needs of the Middle Georgia area.

In 2020 the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and our partners distributed a record-breaking 12 million pounds of food. This provided over 10 million meals for our neighbors in need during an unprecedented level of need associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Georgia Mountain Food Bank

Georgia Mountain Food Bank’s (GMFB’s) mission is to address hunger, health and quality of life by serving those in need. An affiliate of Atlanta Community Food Bank, we provide a vital link between sources of food supplies and hardworking community-based partner agencies who help get the food into the hands of families and individuals in need.
