When disaster strikes, access to food becomes an immediate and critical need. Feeding Georgia helps prepare the state to respond—before, during, and long after emergencies—by coordinating disaster relief efforts across Georgia’s food bank network.
As the statewide association of Georgia’s food banks, Feeding Georgia works to ensure communities have reliable access to food during times of crisis. By aligning partners, securing resources, and supporting logistics, Feeding Georgia helps food banks respond quickly while continuing to serve neighbors throughout long-term recovery.
A Critical Role in Disaster Preparedness and Response
Georgia’s food banks are uniquely equipped to respond to disasters thanks to high-capacity warehouses, established distribution networks, fleets of trucks, and trained staff. Feeding Georgia strengthens this response by coordinating efforts statewide and working closely with Feeding America, FEMA, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), Georgia VOAD, and other disaster relief partners.
Leading up to and immediately following disasters, Feeding Georgia helps:
- Identify immediate needs and the communities most impacted
- Secure additional food and emergency resources for food banks
- Coordinate the staging, transportation, and distribution of supplies
- Advocate for governmental resources and policies that support disaster survivors
This coordinated approach allows food banks to move faster, scale more effectively, and remain present in communities long after the initial emergency has passed.
